Church attenders across 20 denominations were asked in the National Church Life Survey in 2006, 2011, 2016 and again in late 2021/early 2022 to indicate their level of agreement with the statement “Sex between two adults of the same sex is always wrong”.
The stance of church attenders on same-sex relations has changed little since 2006, with the exception of 2011, with a slim majority expressing the view that sex between adults of the same gender is always wrong. However, the intensity of this view has decreased over time with attenders less likely to express strong agreement with the statement.
