Churches have noticeably increased their commitment to recycling, purchasing environmentally friendly consumables, and including environmental concerns in their church services.
Churches from across 20 denominations were asked in the 2016 and 2021 NCLS about environmental actions they have taken toward environmental care. They were most commonly active in collecting recyclables (50%, up 10 percentage points since 2016), purchasing environmentally friendly consumables (47%, up 17 percentage points since 2016) and including environmental concerns in their worship services (38%, up 11 percentage points since 2016).
